HANDS ON TRAINING
Thursday, August 24, 2006
Recently, The members had the opportunity to practice their forcible entry and ventilation skills on an acquired
structure in our local. Because of renovations at the Providence Road Shopping Center, the members were able to drill on the
building that formerly housed Secane Pizza and the Primos branch of the U. S. Post Office; both stores
were relocated to different locations in the shopping center. On Tuesday the 22nd, the members
brought the Tower and Both Engines down tothe shopping center to sharpen their skills. The crews practiced forcible entry on
a steel door in the rear of the store. Once the crews made entry into the structure, they participated in a RIT drill. Members simulated
rescuing trapped fire fighters from a burning building. After the forcible entry and RIT drill, the crews attention was turned to the roof.
The saws were started up and the crews made their way up to the roof to practice ventilation. All members learned a lot and had a
good time at the drill. On Thursday the 24th, the members brought the Tower and Foam Unit 74-2 back down to the shopping
center to go over ventilation once more. During this drill, the members went over more complex types of ventilation cuts. The crews
also went over alternative types of forcible entry. Good job to all of the members that participated in both of the drills.

SEARCH AND RESCUE DRILL
Thursday, August 17, 2006
This week members of 74 held a search and rescue drill as a prelude to next weeks drill we are having at the Delco Training Center.
The officers have been trying to get "back to the basics" to try to hone everyones skills in some of the most basic aspects of firefighting.
The members simulated searching a residential building while attempting to rescue a "victim" and also had an overview of searching a
large open area with our large area search equipment. All members whom participated did a great job.
Stay tuned for more information regarding next weeks drill!

WEEKLY TRAINING
Thursday, August 10, 2006
For the weekly drill the members of station 74 headed out to the Primos Elementary school for a refresher in hand lines.
The members split into two groups and went over how to deploy and properly use the various types of hand lines that are used
at the station. The drill gave the more senior members the opportunity to freshen up their skills on the hose line, as well as give
the younger members some experience on the hose line. At the conclusion of the drill the two teams got together for a race. The goal
of the race was to see which team could get fully geared up and then deploy and advance a hose line the fastest. Both teams
performed well; however, the more senior members prevailed at the race.

SUNDAY DAY TOUR CONSTRUCTS NEW BARRICADE
Sunday, August 6, 2006
On Sunday, the day tour spent the day constructing a new "end of the road" Barricade. Due to many confused drivers proceeding
down into our property despite signs warning of no outlet, it was decided to construct a barricade to prevent stray drivers from
descending into the wooded area directly adjacent to our property. Now some of our members with
4 wheel drive won’t be able to sneak in and out of our property....
