BUSY DAY WITH FIRST DUE WORKING FIRE
Friday, October 13, 2006
Today the company responded to a total of seven calls, including two structure fires. The day started
off at 0400 with an AFA at The Home Depot. The call was founded to be a faulty detector head, and the
assignment was returned. At around 1130, the building assignment was hit out for the 8500 Blk. of Monroe
in Highland Parks local, bringing companies 26 (Highland Park), and 37 (Upper Darby). Crews encountered
heavy smoke inside the dwelling, but had difficulty finding the seat of the fire due to cluttered conditions
inside the house. The Tower was returning from an AFA on Township Line Rd. and was called into the scene
of the fire as the FAST truck. The crew from the Tower was then put in service to assist crews with
ventilation. After returning from the fire, the company ran a couple more AFA’s, and then around 2000
the building assignment was hit out for the 5200 Blk. of Palmers Mill Rd., bringing companies 74, 20
(Garrett-Ford Drexel Hill), 03 (Clifton Heights), and 36 (Cardington-Stonehurst). Engine 74-1 and Ladder
20 arrived to find a vehicle on fire in the garage of a middle of the row dwelling. Crews contained the
fire to the garage with minimal smoke and fire damage to the other areas of the house and the
attached exposures.
