CANGES MADE TO THE ENGINE COMPANY
 Sunday, September 10, 2006

Despite an unusually slow weekend in the Township, the members of Station 74 kept busy
this weekend. On Sunday, the day tour took the Tower over to the Westbrook Park Elementary
school to hang a new halyard line on the flag pole for the Upper Darby School District. After the
Tower returned to the station, they had a quick breakfast and then got to work on remounting
tools on Engine 74-1. Capt. Fiorito and Lt. Bera headed up the project which included taking out
all tools and mounting brackets in the last two compartments on the officers side of the Engine
(compartments 7 & 8). The crew then attached numerous mounting brackets to a board of plywood,
mounted the board in the compartment, and then placed all of the hand tools into their correct bracket
in compartment 8. They then mounted the combination rescue tool, as well as the hydraulic power
plant and various types of cribbing, in compartment 7. This is the first step in a process to reconfigure
the Engine so that the tools are strategically placed and so we can place more equipment that we
need on the truck. Capt. Fiorito and Lt. Bera would like to Thank FF’s J. Calamia and M. Griglione for
helping with the equipment remounting project, and FF’s B. Lynch and D. Condo for helping with the
flag pole at the elementary school.

THE TOWER LADDER HANDLES A PAIR OF COMMUNITY EVENTS
Saturday, September 9, 2006

Despite it being a rather slow Saturday, the day tour kept busy with a pair of community events.
At 2:00 PM the tower Ladder headed down to the Penn Pines Park for the Marine Corps. Annual
Family Picnic, the picnic is a yearly event held by the Upper Darby detachment of the Marine
Corps. While at the picnic, the members gave tours of the tower to the young children that were
at the picnic. The members would like to thank the Marine Corps. for inviting us back to the
picnic this year. After the picnic the Tower Ladder headed down to 69th street for a community
event held by The Shops at 69th Street. The Tower Ladder joined apparatus from the other
companies in the township and handed out fire prevention material to the many shoppers on
69th Street shopping for back to school supplies. The members would like to thank the Shops
at 69th Street for inviting us to the event.
